2009 Crime Survivors, Inc. Updates
On behalf of the Board of Directors of Crime Survivors, and the people we serve, thank you for your generous donation this year. Donations have made a significant impact on Crime Survivors and our ability to assist victims of crime in Orange County. Even with the unexpected economic challenges this past year, because of continued support, Crime Survivors has been able to complete our programs of service and special events. We are so grateful for your support of our mission and vision. Frankly, we could not do it without community involvement like yours.
We would like to take a moment to update you on some of our organization's progress this year and to share a few of our plans for the future.
Most importantly, thanks in part to your donation; we have been able to expand our programs to reach more victims of crime in our community. A few of our accomplishments include:
- Partnered with seven more Police and Sheriff Departments, and are distributing victim emergency bags and resource guides to assist victims of crime within these seven agencies.
- Distributed over eight hundred victim emergency bags in 2009; we anticipate an increase to one thousand in 2010. Over three thousand victim emergency bags have been distributed since the start of this program for our current partners and other local agencies.
- Provided sixty seven briefings to police officers and sheriff deputies on Crime Survivors programs. This helps to foster awareness, prevention and survival within their communities on the services provided by Crime Survivors, Inc.
- Carried out training and speaking engagements to sheriff and police academies, patrol schools, universities, colleges, law schools and corporations in Orange and Los Angeles Counties providing awareness, prevention and survival.
- Expanded the Let’s Meet Officer Frank Book Program to more agencies, schools and day care centers. An additional 500 books have been distributed.
- Through a new partnership between the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department, Officer Frank and Crime Survivors, Inc., we have developed a version of the Officer Frank book, “Let’s Meet Deputy Frank”. The design process has been completed, and the book is going to print.
- Restructured our programs and services, to streamline operations and be more efficient, in order to reach more communities while continuing to follow through with our organization’s mission and vision.
- Developed a video presentation for Crime Survivors, Inc., including representation from Supervisor Bill Campbell, Sheriff Sandra Hutchens, Sheriff Lee Baca, Todd Spitzer and a survivor of crime we assisted..

- Our annual Awards Banquet drew over three hundred and fifty guests. We recognized and awarded twenty-two law enforcement agencies for going above and beyond the call of duty for victims of crime. See link below for video we were also able to develop showing highlights of the awards. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h2zuI_Zn-fU
- Our annual celebrity mini golf tournament was a great success once again, bringing together communities, law enforcement, non-profits, businesses, individuals and victims of crime to have fun and raise funds for Crime Survivors programs.
- The Survive and Thrive Run Walk Health & Safety Expo surpassed expectations and we anticipate this year’s event to bring continued awareness, prevention and survival to all surrounding communities. A new location is pending and will be an exciting way to expand this event and our organization.
- The Giving Thanks Thanksgiving Meal Basket Program was once again a success. We distributed sixty six families with Turkey Meal Baskets.
- A new website has been implemented for our founder, Patricia Wenskunas, to reach out and provide speaking engagements bringing awareness, prevention and survival to all surrounding communities. Speaking fees will be donated to fund programs of service for Crime Survivors, Inc. and to cover her salary and expenses. See new web site at http://www.patriciawenskunas.com/
- Our Annual Survivors Gift Drive & Elf’s Holly Day provided families with lunch, four hours of fun at Boomers family fun center, gifts for all the children and Turkey Meal Boxes for all families to take home. This program provided a holiday of celebration and joy to more than three hundred and nine survivors of crime.
We will be developing a new two year strategic plan at our upcoming Board Workshop on January 23, 2010. This will include voting in a new Executive Board, Board of Directors, a newly started Crime Survivors Council and our Advisory Board. This will be the first step toward our mission and vision for the next two years.
Again, we sincerely thank you for your support and generosity. Crime Survivors, Inc. looks forward to continuing to empower all victims of crime to survive and thrive.
